Vanuatu is one of the most disaster prone countries in the world. If you're risk averse, avoid travelling between November and April as this is prime time for cyclone season. Make sure you get travel insurance that covers natural disasters - this is a MUST!
The Vanuatu Meteorology & Geo-hazards Department is the best source of up-to-date information on any risks during your travel to Vanautu. Make sure to check this before booking your trip, as well as before you depart, and during the lead up to your flights. Any other websites and facebook pages you may find that provide information on safety and risks in Vanuatu use the Vanuatu Meteorology & Geo-hazards Department as the source of their information. The below buttons will take you to the relevant pages:
Lastly, if you're taking any domestic flights within Vanuatu, or flying via Air Vanuatu, I do recommend getting travel insurance that will cover the cost of your accommodation in case your flights are cancelled, as it can be very difficult to get Air Vanuatu to cover this cost. You can refer to the Vanuatu Tourism Office for information on Air Vanuatu. The Air Vanuatu Travel Advisories website also posts information when planes are delayed or cancelled, but they often only post this information after the flight time has passed. In case of cyclones, they will update whether flights will run either the day of the flight, or maximum 24 hours before, as conditions may change rapidly.
