I don't think I've ever recommended to avoid a hotel, but Rock Haven Inn (Lower Vavaya Ridge, Honiara) is hands down the worst hotel I've ever visited. A basic room is SBD250 per night (AU$50), with no fan or aircon, exposed pipe for a shower, and significant mould on the walls. To their credit, they were happy to give me a full refund with no hassle and their staff were lovely. But keep in mind that some budget accommodation may not be up to your standard of cleanliness! This is another advantage of making a reservation and paying cash on arrival - you can check the room and confirm you're happy with it.
